Pet food company sponsors annual spcaLA award

Fremont, NE (May 20, 2009) – Extraordinary acts of bravery come in all shapes and sizes, including on four legs. For saving her family’s life in 2008, Miley Pitts, has been honored as the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles’s (spcaLA) winner of the 27th Annual National Hero Dog Award. In honor of Miley’s courage and award, Natura Pet Products, makers of Innova®, EVO®, California Natural®, HealthWise®, Karma® and Mother Nature® brand pet foods and treats, is sponsoring the Terrier mix from Van Buren, Ark.

When Stacie Pitts was persistently woken by her one-year-old dog Miley in December 2008, she was unaware her companion was saving her family’s lives. Miley’s continual efforts to alert her beloved owners of an unknown danger, caused the Pitts to recognize the signs of carbon monoxide poisoning and get to a hospital. Without Miley’s heroic actions, the Pitts would surely have died in their sleep.

Acknowledging Miley’s valiant and persistent efforts, Natura is honoring the Pitts’ pet with one year of free California Natural dog food. With California Natural, pets can receive all the nutrients they need to stay healthy and strong. Made with pure and simple nutrition, California Natural has the shortest ingredients list of any dry pet food and it never has fillers, by-products or artificial preservatives that can cause allergic reactions or stomach issues for pets.

The National Hero Dog Award is bestowed by the spcaLA on one dog each year who has demonstrated an extraordinary act of bravery that saved and/or protected people. This year’s winner, chosen from nominations across the country, was officially recognized at the awards ceremony on May 19, 2009, at the Staples Center’s Star Plaza in Los Angeles, Calif.
